North Korea blasts US-South Korean drills, vows "merciless" reaction

(MENAFN) North Korea has revealed photographs of its latest missile tests, which included an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), as it criticized recent military maneuvers between South Korea and the United States as an "open provocation and deadly war practice" to which it vowed it will respond.

According to a statement issued by the General Staff of the Korean People's Army on Monday, North Korea would continue to respond to military drills conducted by South Korea and the United States with "sustained, determined, and overwhelming realistic military measures."

Last week, North Korea fired several missiles, including a probable failed ICBM, cruise missiles, and hundreds of artillery shells, while South Korea and the US conducted their Vigilant Storm air drills, which were extended from five to six days in response to Pyongyang's testing.

The North Korean military asserted the exercises were an “open provocation aimed at intentionally escalating the tension” and “a dangerous war drill of very high aggressive nature,” according to the KCNA report.
